Active Bystander Training FAQs
-
Assertiveness training is for the victim in any given situation, to enable them to speak up for themselves and what they want and need in the moment. This becomes a problem when someone may be too embarrassed or shy to speak up for themselves, or when the perpetrator is more senior in the organisation. Active bystander training is about equipping all staff to intervene effectively when they witness inappropriate behaviour.
-
Hundreds of extremely satisfied delegates have completed the Emailogic Active Bystander course. The Active Bystander course is particularly effective when it is done by a whole team or department, or even the whole organisation so that everyone understands the language and behaviours of effective Bystander intervention.
-
An Active Bystander’s qualities include being prepared to intervene or speak out against unacceptable behaviours or attitudes. They also include knowing the most appropriate form of intervention to stop the situation from re-occurring, backing up others when they intervene, and checking in on the recipient of the unacceptable behaviour.
-
Greater employee awareness of what being an Active Bystander means leads to more interventions when there are damaging behaviours. This in turn leads to a decrease in discrimination and harassment, and a more inclusive culture.
